Sewing Tip 23

Vogue 1085 - Knit TopPatterns designed for knit fabrics provide a stretch test on the back of the envelope.  To check the stretch:

-Fold down the crossgrain of the fabric 4 inches.

-Place 2 pins 4 inches apart of the crossgrain fold.

-Stretch fabric on the crossgrain.

-A good stretch fabric will double in size  to 8 inches without the edge rolling.

After the stretch is released, check recovery.  If the knit does not return to its original shape, choose your pattern carefully and do not use that knit anywhere where it will receive stress such as knees and seats.
