Sewing Tip 60: Bedsheet Tableclothes
Sheets now come in such a variety of patterns that it is likely you can find one that will make a good tablecloth. King-size sheets are usually large enough to make a cloth without piecing. Unfortunately, if the fabric combination has any polyester, soil release can be a problem. However, it’s not a problem if the cloth is merely decorative. One hundred percent cotton is a better choice for a cloth you will use for dining. Velour makes a beautiful tablecloth which needs no ironing. Smaller rounds or squares in patterned fabric can be made to drape over the center of the velour, keeping ironing and cleaning to a minimum.
