3 days in Las Vegas

Dear Sewing Enthusiast

My daughter and I just got back from 3 days in Las Vegas. Comparing the items in the windows of the shops to the items worn on the patrons is truly a study in contrast. Someone must shop in these stores but nowhere did I see any purchase being made. My daughter and I are not gamblers but we loved staying in The Cosmopolitan and seeing the shows.

If you need a bit of motivation, I am teaching a weekend 2 day workshop at Stonemountain and Daughter in Berkeley on October 27 and 28th. On Thursday night October 23, I will measure you and show you samples of the skirt and top we are going to make, which I have found flattering on all figures. Don’t wait too long since it is limited to 12.

About this time, I usually start sewing for fall. I love to have new things to wear as soon as the weather changes. If you are one of those who likes to get a head start, take a look at my new pattern releases Vogue 1319 and Vogue 1318. I have made the coat pattern 3 times already. I made the white one on the pattern envelope in cashmere and the darker one in navy blue wool crepe. The 3rd rendition is one made from a bedspread I purchased in Vietnam, very ethnic and very interesting at the same time. This coat is such a beauty! I am preferring a longer vest right now like the one on the Vogue 1318 pattern cover. Just above the knee looks so great with pants and hides figure liabilities. The removable collar lets you take advantage of the fashion trend of faux fur collars as well as collarless, making it a year round option.

Right now I am working on patterns for summer 2013. One of the patterns is a very interesting pant and another is a very flattering tank in the same pattern. The second pattern will be some sort of unlined coat – yet to be decided.

Having some free time in the summer for sewing is such a luxury for all of us!
Happy Days Ahead, Sandra Betzina
