Pant fitting with Craftsy!

Once again I am designing another pant pattern for my Today’s Fit Tab in the Vogue pattern book.  As I make the pants, the question keeps repeating itself:   “Why is a perfect fitting pant so elusive?”

Last summer I filmed two classes in Denver for Craftsy.com :  Pant Fitting Techniques and  Pant Construction Techniques.  I agreed to offer classes on Craftsy because I was intrigued with their format. Craftsy  encouraged me to prepare  2 classes which would start in the beginning and continue in-depth,  as far as my knowledge of the subject would take me.  Such an undertaking!

Preparing for the classes simultaneously excited me and overwhelmed me.   I loved the challenge, spending hours and hours on the preparation  so that the information would flow in a manner which would be sequential and easy to understand.    Craftsy inquired about what  style pant pattern would enable fitting adjustments for all types of figures?  Discontinued Today’s Fit Vogue 2948 was my very best fitting pant because it had princess seams, ie. mid leg vertical seamlines which would enable both horizontal as well as vertical adjustments.  It also had a European crotch curve which enabled the pant to fit closer under the seat in addition to a contoured waist which would sit comfortably over the waist and tummy. Craftsy contacted Vogue and commissioned a large  special order of  this pattern which would be given free to every student.

As a student in a Craftsy class you are able to post questions to both the teacher and other students. Since the classes made their first debut in mid October, I have seen many inprogress photos and answered many many questions about fit. This process has enabled me to finally answer the question I posed earlier regarding:   “ Why is the perfect fitting pant so elusive?”

The answer to this question is three fold:

#1 The female body comes in so many forms, full hips, flat hips,  different crotch lengths front and back,  full or thin thighs, flat or protruding seat,  high hips, plump knees, bow legs, knocked knees, protruding tummies, short legs etc.

#2 No matter what body we have, we still have the vision that we can look like that long legged super slim model in our pants, if only they fit right.

#3 Variety of fabrics available and each one with a different drape

MY CONCLUSION IS THAT ANYONE CAN HAVE A PANT THAT FITS AND FEELS COMFORTABLE,  IF THEY ARE WILLING TO DO THE WORK .   MAKE THE PRETEST, IDENTIFY YOUR FITTING ISSUES, MAKE THE PATTERN ADJUSTMENTS I SUGGEST, CHOOSE THE RIGHT FABRIC AND BECOME SLIGHTLY MORE REALISTIC.

WHY NOY  BE THE BEST YOU CAN BE: IN YOUR APPEARANCE – WEARING CLOTHES THAT FIT AND FLATTER, IN YOUR CARRIAGE – YOUR POSTURE, IN YOUR CONFIDENCE – OPTIMISTIC PEOPLE LIVE LONGER!
